Key Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist Leader, you will have a two-sided role, balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on expertise. You will develop and enhance data-driven dealer tools designed to optimize return on investment (ROI) and provide actionable business insights for our commercial customers. 


Your main responsibilities include:

People Leadership
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data scientists, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Talent Management: Support recruitment, onboarding, and career growth for team members, providing regular feedback and coaching to help them reach their full potential.

  • Resource Planning & Allocation: Effectively manage team resources and priorities, ensuring the right skills are matched to the right projects and business needs.

  • Performance Management: Set clear goals and expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and support professional development for your team.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Represent the data science team in discussions with senior management and stakeholders, clearly communicating project progress, challenges, and successes.

  • Strategic Alignment within Department: Ensure the data science team’s objectives and initiatives are aligned with the broader departmental and organizational strategy, actively contributing to shared goals and priorities.


Expertise
  • End-to-end Machine Learning Development: Design, develop, and deploy ML models and AI solutions tailored to dealer needs, such as pricing optimization, inventory management, and predictive demand modeling - all aimed at maximizing ROI for our commercial clients.
  • Data Insights: Analyze large datasets to uncover trends and opportunities, translating these findings into practical recommendations that help dealers make informed, profitable decisions.

  • Proof-of-Concepts: Build and validate POCs for innovative dealer-focused features, demonstrating their business value to stakeholders.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other data scientists to ensure dealer tools are aligned with business goals and deliver measurable impact.

  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and refine dealer algorithms and tools, ensuring they remain scalable, efficient, and effective in driving ROI.

About the Role


We are looking for a Data Scientist Lead (d/f/m) to join our data science team in Berlin, focusing on Leading a team of Data Scientists and implementing Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence solutions for our Dealer (commercial customer) products.

You will report to the Head of Data Science, and be the people leader for a team of data scientists which work closely with the Dealer product team. Our mission is to create holistic, seamless experiences for users and deliver innovative, data-driven tools for our commercial customers.

You will join a supportive, knowledge‑sharing data science community where open discussion, joint experimentation, and learning from one another are part of everyday work.

We offer a flexible working environment, with the expectation of in-person office presence once or twice a week (or as required for product team appointments).

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience with ML: Proven track record in designing, training, and deploying machine learning models, especially for commercial customer solutions such as pricing optimization, inventory management, and actionable business insights.

  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading data science projects and/or teams, fostering collaboration, mentoring others, and driving impactful results in a commercial environment.

  • GenAI Experience: Practical experience working with generative AI models and tools, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and integrating GenAI solutions into business applications.

  • ML Ops & Infrastructure Automation: Hands-on experience with ML Ops practices (e.g., model deployment, monitoring, CI/CD pipelines) and automating cloud infrastructure for scalable ML solutions.

  • Programming Skills: Advanced proficiency in Python, with expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases for data processing and analysis.

  • Cloud Platform Experience: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP and AWS, including deploying and managing machine learning solutions in production environments.

  • Data Science Toolkit Mastery: Deep knowledge of frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn, and familiarity with modern ML libraries and tools.

  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to translate complex business challenges into data science problems and develop impactful, actionable solutions.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Excellent skills in explaining technical concepts and complex insights to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding.

  • Agile Mindset: Experience working in agile environments (e.g., Scrum or Kanban) and contributing to iterative product development processes.
