Team / division overview
DWS’s data infrastructure team provides the secure, scalable, and trustworthy foundation for storing, processing, and distributing critical enterprise data. As Principal Engineer, you will set the technical vision and architectural direction for our strategic data platforms, shaping decisions that influence multiple teams and critical business capabilities. You’ll lead through technical authority, define engineering standards, mentor senior engineers, and contribute directly to architecture and key implementation decisions.
We are looking for a Principal Engineer - Data Platforms (m/f/d)
Responsibilities
Define the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the data platform in partnership with the Head of Technology and architecture leadership
Own the end-to-end architecture and key technical decisions across the platform and its supporting systems, from ingestion through distribution
Set and evolve engineering standards for platform infrastructure, data modeling, testing, observability, and lineage
Mentor senior and staff engineers through design leadership, code reviews, and hands-on technical guidance
Collaborate with architects, security engineers, control functions, the Chief Data Office, and other stakeholders to improve compliance, security posture, and reliability
Work with product owners and internal customers to translate product vision and demand into platform capabilities
Requirements
12+ years in platform engineering, ideally on enterprise data platforms; a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or similar is a plus
Deep expertise in modern data platforms, preferably Snowflake and its ecosystem as well as complex data modernization projects
Proven ability to lead technical decisions across complex enterprises and influence without formal authority
Extensive experience running production data platforms and cloud infrastructure at enterprise scale
Strong understanding of data governance and IT compliance in regulated environments
Excellent track record of leading, mentoring and transforming engineering teams
Strong programming skills
Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and attention to detail
Fluent English, written and spoken
